Thursday Night is ‘Brainiac Night’

3 September 2004 13:22

The Sky One ‘science’ series, Brainiac, has returned for a second series. Presented by Richard ‘used to be on Top Gear’ Hammond and Jon ‘famous geek from Big Brother’ Tickle, it takes a rather anarchic, but educational look a popular science.

Last night’s programme addressed such important things as

  • what happens to soap when you put it in a microwave”;
  • how to make quicksand at the beach;
  • can a bunch of blokes re-enacting the American Civil War with muskets and cannons destroy a conventional ‘black box’ flight recorder?
  • can you make scrambled eggs in a tumble dryer?
  • etc.

It’s science and therefore educational. So that’s alright then … Sky One, Thursdays at 20:00 for the next few weeks.

    I’ll stick with Junior Mastermind – I can almost get most of the general knowledge quesions and a fair amount of the science based specialist stuff..

    I remember when I could do the same with the adult version too, but then I’m getting old now…(nearly 40 and would have been dead long ago in The Domed City

    Yeah, but in Brainiac you get to do all the experiments they wouldn’t let you do at school. Last night they blew up a couple of bath tubs by dropping small amounts of caesium and rubidium into them. Real science :-)

    Oh yeah, and they have a severe dislike of caravans.
