For some reason, The Confluence Project appeals to my mind. It is a project to take a photograph at every intersection of whole numbers of lines of latitude and longitude. For example, the nearest “confluence” to me is at 52 degrees North and 1 degree West, which is in the middle of a field in Buckinghamshire.
What is remarkable is that, looking through all the intersection points, almost all of them are in ‘rural’ areas, or in the sea of course. The only intersection I could find in a city was in Lima, Peru (12 degrees South and 77 degrees West). I won’t admit to the length of time that was spent looking for that.
There are composite maps which show the pictures overlaid on a map of the world. This is a good choice for browsing around … This, in particular, gives a very striking blue and green image of the Earth.
