A Very Silly Patch

I am the author of various bits of software including the colordiff program, which is used to provide colour-highlighting to ‘diff’ output, from ‘diff’ directly or from either of the popular revision control applications: CVS and Subversion.

Occasionally people email me about the program or send me patches to the code to add extra features or fix minor bugs. But yesterday’s email has to be the most bizarre. It asked whether I had considered renaming ‘colordiff’ to ‘colourdiff’ “especially since you’re in the UK aren’t you?” … ! He even included a patch, renaming every mention in the README files and documentation etc.!

By the way, if you’re using either the ‘testing’ or ‘unstable’ distribution of Debian, just do apt-get install colordiff to install it … Go on, you know you want to. You can customize the colours 🙂
