{"id":170,"date":"2005-04-12T20:05:20","date_gmt":"2005-04-12T20:05:20","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2005-04-12T20:05:20","modified_gmt":"2005-04-12T20:05:20","slug":"","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sungate.co.uk\/?p=170","title":{"rendered":"Good Things, Bad Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems I&#8217;m not having time to write proper posts here at the moment, so here&#8217;s a quick summary.<\/p>\n<p>Good things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discovering that the central IT services for the local University (onto whose network we will be moving shortly) are very competent, very helpful and properly organised;<\/li>\n<li>The new series of Dr Who, despite Billie Piper &#8211; actually, possibly <i>because of<\/i> Billie Piper;<\/li>\n<li>Being able to solve a configuration difficulty with <a href=\"http:\/\/thekelleys.org.uk\/dnsmasq\/doc.html\">dnsmasq<\/a> by downloading and reviewing the dnsmasq source code, finding references to undocumented behaviour;<\/li>\n<li>The usefulness of the <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.debian.org\/debian-user\/\">debian-user<\/a> mailing list in sorting out various issues;<\/li>\n<li>Looking forward to an incredibly geeky gathering at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lugradio.org\/live\/2005\/\">LUG-Radio Live<\/a>, meeting up with members of the team and others from the LUG-Radio community;<\/li>\n<li>The new album from New Order;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bad things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The prospect of a continuing Labour Government;<\/li>\n<li>The prospect of a replacement Conservative Government;<\/li>\n<li>The increasing reliance of OpenOffice 2 on Sun&#8217;s Java;<\/li>\n<li>Spam;<\/li>\n<li>All the work still to do prior to our Department&#8217;s move to new premises in June;<\/li>\n<li>No political party is, as far as I am aware, proposing to introduce a Stupidity Tax at the forthcoming General Election;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure I had more Bad Things than that.
