The clearest effect they are having is drowsiness: an hour or two after taking them, I get really sleepy. This is a bit annoying, but not really too much of a problem. I guess they are also having their intended effects, although this is actually harder to detect!

In an effort to rest the wrist, I had it in a sling over most of the weekend: this was perhaps a little melodramatic but probably the best way to make me stop trying to use it. The rest helped a lot, which is very reassuring. I also made an effort to avoid typing much over the weekend, which I succeeded in doing. Any typing was with my right hand only. (Ever tried typing a 50-character passphrase, tediously slowly with just one hand, only to find that it’s wrong and have to redo it about three times? But I digress…)

I’ve been keeping typing to a minimum at work, which although tricky has been possible. This has also helped and the wrist is feeling noticeably better. I haven’t biked to work since Friday 6 January, which has reduced the strain on the wrist, but is a bit annoying because taking the bus means (a) longer commutes and (b) less predictable commutes. I can put up with this for a while though, in order to further rest the injury.

In summary: reasonable progress, but still a little way to go.

Following on in this saga: since Friday I have been taking a hefty dose of the anti-inflammatory tablets which are based on diclofenac.
