On running an <b>apt-get upgrade<\/b> the other evening for my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.debian.org\/\">Debian<\/a> workstation, something weird happened with the package dependencies and my nice window manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kde.org\/\">KDE<\/a> disappeared.  Yep, the packages were actually deleted!  Guess I wasn&#8217;t really paying attention when it gave the summary of what it was doing, d&#8217;oh!<\/p>\n<p>I actually like KDE rather a lot, at home at least, &#8216;cos it is good for the BOFH-let (see <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.catb.org\/~esr\/jargon\/html\/B\/BOFH.html\">definition of BOFH<\/a> and consider a BOFH-let as a BOFH in training) to use.  So, I changed my Debian sources list to include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.debian.org\/releases\/\">Unstable in addition to Testing<\/a> and that eventually pulled in KDE3, which is exceptionally shiny.  See the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kde.org\/screenshots\/kde310shots.php\">KDE3 screenshot page<\/a> for an idea of what it looks like.  I&#8217;ll stick a screenshot of my setup on here later.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, I had previously considered trying to upgrade from KDE2 to KDE3, but didn&#8217;t want to mess around with the packages too much &#8211; the above faux pas kind-of forced my hand, it seems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh dear.
