Avatar (n.): An image representing a user online or in a
multi-user virtual reality space.
A Gravatar, is a ‘globally-recognised’ avatar. This means that you can use the same avatar in a number of locations on the ‘net, blogs etc.
Register your email address and an image at the Gravatar site. So long as you use your email address in the comments you make, your image will appear. At present, my own image is registered and common-commenter ‘mrben’ also. See the previous article with comments as an example.

PermalinkIf you’ve only just registered your image, you’ll need to wait for it to be ‘rated’ before it becomes available. I registered mine yesterday evening and it was available today … It’ll automatically appear for all your previous comments, ‘retrospectively’, once it is rated.
