Hey, are you reading this in Internet Explorer?

Someone spotted that the gravatars part in my comments don’t render properly under Internet Explorer, which brings me to the question: who exactly is reading this web site with Internet Explorer? Almost all my acquaintances will be using Linux and/or Firefox, and I’m surprised there’s anyone using IE to read this. Most family members are using Firefox too because I installed it for them.

So, speak up, don’t be shy – leave a comment if you read this web page with Internet Explorer so I know who you are!

Looking at my weblogs (where ‘Mozilla Firefox’ includes all Mozilla-based browsers):

  • 60% of visitors use Mozilla Firefox under Linux;
  • 15% of visitors use Mozilla Firefox under Windows;
  • Less than 1% of visitors use Mozilla Firefox under some other OS, e.g. FreeBSD, Mac OS, Solaris;
  • 21% of visitors use Internet Explorer, which is more than I’d expect;
  • The remaining couple of percent use Konqueror and Opera.

I will try to fix the gravatars rendering issue with Internet Explorer … probably.

Update: I can’t even reproduce the problem, actually. SWMBO’s Windows 2000 machine running IE6 displays the pages with gravatar comments correctly. So, let me know if you use IE and get strange comments display, thanks … screenshots would be helpful!

  1. I normally use Firefox under Windows to view, because I’m at work. If at home, then it’ll be Firefox under Linux 🙂

    Opera, when I last used it, set it’s user agent to report as IE by default – maybe some of your 21% are people with their user agent set incorrectly?
