Heisenberg’s firewall

Been having some trouble at work with the firewall, which has been falling over each evening since it was relocated on Wednesday. This is either due to it overheating in its new surroundings, or due to a kernel upgrade which took place at the same time.

I’ve done what I consider to be a ‘fix’: moved it to a cooler location, stuck the most recent kernel I could find on it etc. But with a long Bank Holiday weekend ahead of us, I have decided that I Don’t Want To Know if it goes tits up between now and Tuesday morning. So I am being super-disciplined about not doing anything that will reveal to me the state of the firewall before I get to work on Tuesday. I’d only feel like I should get to work and fix it …

I think this is a Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle thing: the firewall is in a super-state of being both ‘online’ and ‘offline’ until I ‘observe’ its state. Not until Tuesday morning does the super-state collapse into a real ‘online’ or ‘offline’ condition.
