Christmas, New Year and all that

So, that was 2005. It has been an interesting year.

Work-wise there have been big changes: the premises move, a new PFY and our project to go from “Netware-3” to “Netware-Free” within the first two months of 2006.

On the home front during this Holiday Season, Santa has brought me some nice things:

  • Star Wars III on DVD (haven’t yet seen this, nor did I get to see it at the cinema);
  • Terry Pratchett’s “Thud” – I’ve not bought myself a Pratchett for years. The new books seem to be released at “around birthday time” and at “around Christmas”, making it ideal present-fodder;
  • A pair of long-range walkie-talkies, which are considerably more fun than you might expect, if you’ve never had any 🙂
  • The Third World War by Humphrey Hawksley, which sounds very interesting;
  • The singles collection from New Order on CD, cunningly entitled Singles;
  • The BBC’s “QI” interactive DVD, which is basically a quiz, really. Should be good, though;

The dust has now settled on the festivities and life will be returning to normal on Tuesday. As always, I won’t be making any New Year’s Resolutions: on the few occasions in the past when I’ve made them, they’ve been rubbish.

And of course we have a leap second to “look forward to” at the end of 2005. I’ll be asleep, but sleeping contentedly in the knowledge that we are all keeping our clocks in sync with the Earth. Which Is Nice.

  2. hmm netware-free……would be nice if our only netware system was ported to *nix.

    But hey it could be worse, at my work we’re busily planning to go M$ for almosst all core systems…ah well might get an MCSE out of it, and find out how bad/good MS-Ex 2003 really is to use

  3. maxsec: *shudder* – doesn’t sound nice, at all :-/ I’m just glad I’ve got control over the decisions on IT kit/OS/setups at our place 🙂
