Regarding the restore from backup, it worked. I’m relieved. This is why doing backups is a good idea.
And in the process I decided that the AMANDA restore scripts are very well written too.

It’s great when backups work and it’s shit when you forget to back things up (as I frequently do, which is why I attempt to svn anything useful offsite)
I wouldn’t put the feeling you get from working backups up their with becoming a father but sliced bread is in trouble.

Of course you test the restore once a month anyway, so this doesn’t come as a surprise!
