Given that the W32/Gibe-F virus messages were coming in at 5 or 6
every hour, I was slightly concerned about what Being Away For Five
Days would do to my email accounts. Five days worth of messages at
5 or 6 per hour makes around 5*24*5 = 600 messages. At 150K in size
each, that’s a lot of disk space on my incoming mail spool. For all
I know, my incoming mail spool with my normal access provider has a
quota considerably less than that.
So I redirected my incoming mail to an alternative location,
which doesn’t have a ‘quota’, as such, but has a ‘bandwidth per
month’ limit. This was a risk, but it appeared to pay off. Only
got about 250 of the viruses in the end anyway, so they appear to be
tailing off.
