So, the virus W32/Gibe-F
is now doing the rounds. It arrives as an infected email, usually
looking like a Microsoft Security announcement (they never send
these sort of announcements,
by the way). There’s a story
about it on BBC news. I have received over 150 such virus-ridden
emails since
first thing yesterday – an arrival rate of about one message every
10 minutes or so, continuously for the past 24 hours.
If your
anti-virus software is up-to-date, it
will catch it of course; if you’re running something other than
Windows, you can’t be infected by it either. Doesn’t stop the email
messages actually arriving though …
Updated 19:30: Have now received more than 100 copies of
this thing since 0800 this morning. Grrr. When the revolution
comes, we’re gonna need a bigger wall.
