Everyone’s been waiting for the new release of Mozilla Firebird, version 0.8. But, when it finally arrives, it turns out that it has been renamed Mozilla Firefox.
Eh? Wazzatallaboutthen?
There’s clearly enough confusion to warrant a Renaming FAQ. Seems like the short version of the story is that there were complaints from the Firebird relational database people, which is perhaps fair enough.
This is of course the second time that this browser project has changed its name – it used to be called Phoenix.
Anyway, it’s annoying to have to change the name used in one’s advocacy for the project, so I think I’ll be referring to “the Mozilla browser” or something like that, just in case it changes again.
Although I must admit that “the browser formerly known as Firebird formerly known as Phoenix” has a certain satirical appeal … 🙂
I think they should just rename it with some wierd symbol like his purple-ness did.. (that’s the artist formally know as Prince BTW)
