Ramblings about stuff

This week I have been mostly…

This week I have been mostly doing the following:

  • Reading my CCNA books. They cover a sod of a lot of material. I’ve nearly finished reading the first (“easiest”) of the two. A lot of the first half was unfamiliar material and I was beginning to think I might not be able to see it through, but a large middle section emblazened with the note “This bit’s really important and there will be a lot about it on the exam” was about stuff that I basically already knew inside out: IP networking, addressing, subnets, masks, routing… I feel slightly less daunted by the whole thing now;
  • Getting an invitation to the House Of Commons. Well, OK, not directly. I’ve been invited to a dinner to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of one of our work IT suppliers and the ‘do’ is taking place at the “Members and Strangers” bar at the House Of Commons, hosted by some random MP. Quite what relationship he has to the company in question I have no idea. Anyway, I probably can’t go, given that it’s a Saturday night up in London. The invitation says “Dress: Formal. Gentlemen must wear ties for admittance”. I don’t do ties. Unless I could persuade them that I’m not a gentleman, of course…
  • Winning at ten-pin bowling. Went bowling with a large group of gents on Monday and, despite opening with a rather poor 98 in the first game (after starting it quite well with two strikes and a spare), things improved somewhat and I managed a 152 in the second round. This was the top score of the night. Hurrah!

One Response to This week I have been mostly…

  1. A trip to ThinkGeek might be in order for such an event (HoC, not bowling alley): http://www.thinkgeek.com/apparel/hats-ties/ . I favour the “ties suck” tie.
